At bluebot, we’re on a mission to do our part in reducing water stress. The world’s first universal, clamp-on smart water meter – bluebot – helps people understand their water usage better than ever before. We’re proud to partner with The Ocean Cleanup to support in their mission to clean up ocean plastic pollution. Through this partnership, we pledge to remove one pound of trash for every bluebot water meter sold.
What is bluebot?
Our bluebot home water meter gives you water use data in real time. With ease of installation (it simply clamps on virtually any pipe – no pipe cutting necessary), bluebot sends data about water usage to your smart phone. Armed with this water use data, people are able to make better decisions about water use, saving both water and money.
What is The Ocean Cleanup?
The health of our oceans is of great importance to us all. Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter the oceans. This plastic can gather in ocean garbage patches, which develop in a vortex of circulating currents.
The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, develops and scales technologies to rid the oceans of plastic. Their goal is to clean up 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution. They are taking two approaches to achieve this:
Cleaning the Ocean: The Ocean Cleanup is developing cleaning systems that can capture and remove plastics swirling in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. This has resulted in System 002, which reached proof of technology and is already at work.
Intercepting in Rivers: If we hope to rid the oceans of plastic, part of that work has to be focused on stopping plastic waste from entering the oceans in the first place. The Interceptor, developed by The Ocean Cleanup, is a completely solar-powered catamaran. As water flow passes through the system, plastic is captured onto a conveyor belt to be disposed of on land.
How can you conserve water?
Caring about water just makes sense, whether it’s through making better decisions about usage or cleaning up our rivers and oceans. If you’re ready to get involved, bluebot is the easy way to get started. Having a water usage meter like bluebot makes a meaningful difference – both in individual water use and overall conservation of water.
